NEMA officially distributes relief materials to floôd, raïnstorm victims in Rivers state

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Port Harcourt Operations Office, has officially distributed relief materials to communities in the Port Harcourt Federal Constituency II of Rivers State.

The aid is intended for people affected by recent rainstorms and floods.

According to a statement via NEMA’s X handle, on Sunday, 24th August 2025, the distribution, which took place at the Amadi Opara Okokwu Town Hall, was overseen by the Head of Operations, Eric Ebhodaghe.

During the event, Ebhodaghe conveyed the sympathy of NEMA’s Director General, Zubaida Umar, to the affected individuals and urged beneficiaries to make good use of the materials to help with their recovery.

The statement reads:

“The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Port Harcourt Operations Office, today carried out the official distribution of Federal Government–approved relief materials to persons and communities affected by recent rainstorm and flood disasters in Port Harcourt Federal Constituency II, Rivers State.

“The exercise, which took place at Amadi Opara Okokwu Town Hall, was supervised by the Head of Operations, Mr. Eric Ebhodaghe, who led the NEMA team.

“While addressing the gathering, Mr. Ebhodaghe conveyed the sympathy of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to all the affected persons. He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the materials provided as they are meant to cushion the impact of the disaster on their lives and livelihoods.

“In her remarks, the Honourable Member representing Port Harcourt Federal Constituency II, Hon. Barr. Blessing Chigeru Amadi, expressed gratitude to the NEMA DG for the swift and timely intervention, noting that the assistance would go a long way in alleviating the hardships of her constituents who were badly affected by the rainstorm and flood incidents.

“Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hajiah Okiri Amina Larai, Elder Allaga Amadi, and Mrs. Susan Dike (Woman Leader) expressed their appreciation, pledging to ensure the relief items are used for the benefit of the affected households.

“The approved relief items were mainly food materials and distributed to the affected persons in Elekahia, Ogbunabali, Woji, Ogali, Nchia, and Akpajo communities.

“The distribution exercise was conducted smoothly with the active participation of community leaders, stakeholders, and beneficiaries. Group photographs were taken to mark the successful conclusion of the exercise.”
