NDLEA Foils Drug Smuggling Attempts, Destroys Cannabis Farm In Multistate Operations

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has achieved significant successes in recent operations, intercepting large consignments of illicit substances and apprehending multiple suspects across several states in Nigeria.

In one operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted two consignments of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing a total of 5,344.1 kilograms. The interceptions took place along the Epe-Lekki corridor and at Alfa Beach in Lekki, Lagos State. Acting on credible intelligence, the anti-narcotics officers set up an ambush for a white truck carrying 50 jumbo bags of the illicit substance, weighing 2,434.1kg. The driver of the truck managed to escape in a security Hilux van, leaving behind the immobilized vehicle and the seized drug exhibits.

Additionally, the NDLEA Marine Command, acting on intelligence, intercepted a boat loaded with the same imported substance weighing 2,910kg upon its arrival from Ghana at Alfa Beach. Two Ghanaian nationals, Monday Saba (30) and Hakeem Kwana (27), who were found in possession of the consignments, were promptly apprehended.

In Niger State, two suspects, Abubakar Mohammed (32) and Nuhu Sale (43), were arrested along the Abuja expressway in Suleja. They were caught with 31 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 517kg. In Kogi State, a 30-year-old woman named Amina Alilu was arrested with 171kg of the same substance in Ogbogodo village, Dekina LGA.

Furthermore, a suspected fake female security agent, Ogedegbe Dorcas (34), was nabbed in Ajegunle Asa Dam Area of Ilorin, Kwara State, with 30kg of cannabis. In Oyo State, NDLEA operatives intercepted Segun Olajide (42) with 49.2kg of the illicit substance in Oyo town.

In Edo State, NDLEA operatives launched a successful operation in Ekudo forest, Uhunmwode LGA. They destroyed a cannabis farm measuring 2.494863 hectares and recovered 67kg of processed weed. Six suspects, identified as Onyeka Onyedinma, Monday Onyedi, Alex Eboh, Edosa Imariagbe, Godbless Tunde, and Godstime Osarobo, were apprehended during the operation.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, commended the officers and men of the various commands involved in these operations.

He praised their efforts in preventing over five tons of illicit substances from entering circulation in the country. Gen. Marwa urged NDLEA personnel across all formations to remain committed to the agency’s goal of eradicating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.
