Naira Appreciates Against Dollar, Offering Respite For Investors

The Nigerian currency, the Naira, showed signs of strength on Thursday as it appreciated against the Dollar.

According to reports from NAN (News Agency of Nigeria), the Naira gained 3.22 per cent compared to its previous exchange rate of N793.70 against the Dollar on Wednesday.

This positive change brought the exchange rate down to N768.16 at the Investors and Exporters window, offering some relief to the financial markets.

Throughout the day’s trading, the Naira exhibited its volatility as the spot exchange rate hit a high of N844 to the Dollar before eventually settling at N768.16. On the other end of the spectrum, the Naira was also recorded to have sold as low as N700 to the Dollar within the same trading period.

The open indicative rate, which is an important benchmark, closed at N787.13 to the Dollar on Thursday, reflecting the overall market sentiment during the day’s transactions.

It is worth noting that the investors’ and exporters’ window witnessed significant activity, with a total of 56.22 million dollars traded on Thursday. This indicates a heightened interest in the Nigerian market and the currency’s performance.

This positive movement in the Naira comes in the wake of foreign exchange reforms introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the past month. These reforms aimed to unify the forex window, which had previously led to fluctuations in the Naira’s value against the Dollar.
