Lagos Is The Fourth Worst City To Live In The World – EIU

In a recent report released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Lagos, the economic capital of Nigeria, has been listed as the fourth worst city to live in the world.

The EIU, an agency under The Economist of London, evaluates various factors to determine the liveability of cities globally.

While Vienna and Copenhagen retained their positions as the first and second most liveable cities, Lagos experienced a slight improvement compared to the previous year. In 2022, Lagos was ranked as the second worst city, but it has now moved up two spots in the EIU’s 2023 Global Liveability report.

The EIU attributed Lagos’ improved ranking to advancements in healthcare and education. The city has seen some positive developments in these areas, which have contributed to its overall score. However, the report acknowledged that corruption continues to be a problem in Lagos.

Lagos, once again, found itself in the company of cities facing significant challenges. It surpassed Algiers, the capital of Algeria; Tripoli, the capital of Libya; and Damascus, the capital of war-torn Syria in the rankings. These cities have also experienced some progress in healthcare and education, likely influenced by increased public funding due to higher global oil and gas prices.
