The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 32 individuals identified as members of the ‘Omotaku’ group for disrupting traffic and creating public safety hazards. The coordinated enforcement operation took place across major routes on both the Island and Mainland, following numerous complaints about the group’s activities.
According to officials, the suspects were apprehended for illegally obstructing traffic, endangering motorists, and causing a public nuisance. They were reportedly stopping various vehicles, including tankers and private cars, at key hotspots like Apongbon, Ojuelegba, and Surulere. During the arrests, some individuals were found smoking suspected hard drugs and Indian hemp.
The suspects face charges under the Transport Sector Reform Law (2018) and the Environmental Management and Protection Law (2017). The Chairman of the Taskforce affirmed the agency’s commitment to clearing miscreants from all parts of the state and restoring public order. All 32 arrested individuals have been charged to court.
