Hon. Habeebat Deen has been unveiled as the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 11, 2023 election in Kogi State.
The announcement was made by the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Dino Melaye, at a brief unveiling ceremony held at the private residence of a former governor of the state, Alh. Ibrahim Idris, in Abuja.
Deen, who hails from Ankpa local government area of Kogi East senatorial zone of the state, was a member of the Kogi State House of Assembly.
The choice of Deen as the first female deputy governorship candidate in the state has been applauded by party stalwarts and members.
Speaking at the event, Melaye said the choice of Deen was unprecedented by any major political party in the state, adding that “we will continue to do things that are innovative and different.”
Present at the unveiling event were the state PDP chairman, Engr. Sam Ohuotu; Brigadier General Tunde Ogbeha (rtd); former Governor Ibrahim Idris; Prince Olusola Akanmode; Dr. Tom Adaba, and Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, among other party stalwarts and members.
Ogbeha congratulated Melaye for quickly and seamlessly nominating a deputy governorship candidate on the PDP ticket, saying that by the action, “he (Melaye) has shown his gender sensitivity.”
He added that Deen’s choice was “a divine choice” and would generate a lot of interest, excitement, and goodwill.
Akpoti-Uduaghan praised the gender balance of the PDP ticket and called for the unity of purpose among party members in the state to achieve victory at the governorship poll.
Former Governor Ibrahim Idris also emphasized the need for unity among party members, saying that success could only be achieved if they work together.
