DRUG TRAFFICKING: FBI Denies Jeffrey Guterman’s Request for File on Tinubu, Nigeria’s President-Elect

  • The FBI has rejected a request from Jeffrey Guterman, a retired American mental health counselor, for a file on Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
  • The FBI declined to release records related to Tinubu’s $460,000 forfeiture in the US due to the request not meeting their terms of service and to prevent an invasion of personal privacy.
  • Guterman shared the FBI’s response on Twitter, highlighting the FBI’s reference to Tinubu as TINUBU, BOLA AHMED, raising questions about how they had access to the Ahmed part of his name.

Drug trafficking is a major problem affecting many countries, and Nigeria is not an exception. Recently, there have been reports of drug trafficking linked to Nigeria’s President-elect, Tinubu. Jeffrey Guterman, a renowned activist, made a request to the FBI to release files about Tinubu’s alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has refused to fulfill a request made by retired American mental health counselor, Jeffrey Guterman, to release a file on Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Guterman had asked for records regarding Tinubu’s $460,000 forfeiture in the US linked to drug trafficking.

However, the FBI declined, stating that the request did not meet their terms of service and that they cannot confirm or deny the existence of files on third-party individuals to prevent an invasion of personal privacy.

Guterman revealed the FBI’s response on Twitter, highlighting that the FBI referred to Tinubu as TINUBU, BOLA AHMED in their letter, raising questions about how they had access to the Ahmed part of his name.

The letter advised Guterman to appeal their decision within 90 days or seek dispute resolution via email.

In a tweet, Guterman stated, “See below a copy of the letter I received today from the @FBI regarding my request, based on the Freedom of Information Act, for the FBI file on Bola Tinubu.

“My request was rejected because, according to the FBI, the existence of files on third-party individuals will neither be confirmed nor denied by the FBI due to unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.

“I found it noteworthy that in my online submission, I referred to Tinubu as “Bola Tinubu,” but in their letter, the FBI referred to him as TINUBU, BOLA AHMED. How would the FBI access the Ahmed part of his name? Again, I did not provide the Ahmed part of his name in my submission. Moreover, it is public knowledge that the FBI has a file on Tinubu for his $460,000 forfeiture to the US.

“The letter also states that if I received their response through standard mail (which I did), this is because my online submission did not meet their terms of service. According to the letter, my options are to (1) submit any questions by email or call their office, (2) administratively appeal their decision within 90 days of the date of their letter, and/or (3) seek dispute resolution by email.

“I will now consider my next plan of action.”
