Kano Police Arrest Suspects, Including Nephew, in K!lling of Housewife and Her Six Children

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the horrific murder of a housewife and her six children at their home in the Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano. One of the primary suspects arrested, Umar Auwalu, 23, has been identified as the deceased woman’s nephew.

The police conducted an intelligence-led sting operation following the January 17, 2026, attack, which was initiated after a distress call alerted authorities. The investigation was directly overseen by the Inspector-General of Police and the Kano State Commissioner of Police.

The suspects, who include Isyaku Yakubu (“Chebe”) and Yakubu Abdulaziz (“Wawo”), were apprehended between the evening of January 17 and the early hours of January 18. During interrogation, Umar Auwalu reportedly confessed to the crime and admitted the group’s involvement in past violent attacks.

Police allege the same syndicate is responsible for other crimes in Kano, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters. Recovered items from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, the victims’ mobile phones, a cutlass, a local club (gora), stolen cash, and other weapons.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of their activities and identify any other accomplices. The police commended the officers involved in the swift operation and thanked the public for providing crucial information.
