Over 4,400 Qur’an reciters gathered on Saturday for a day of special prayers in Kano State, seeking divine intervention against rising insecurity following recent bandit attacks.
The prayer session, organized by the state government at the Government House, brought together Islamic scholars, traditional leaders, and senior officials. The event was a response to growing security concerns in the Kano North senatorial district, including the recent kidnapping of at least 15 residents and the killing of a woman.
Among the attendees were the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, top government figures, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community representatives.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described insecurity as a non-partisan issue requiring unified action. “Insecurity does not discriminate based on politics or party affiliation. It affects everyone equally. That is why all hands must be on deck to confront this threat together and restore safety to Kano,” he stated.
He noted that his administration has been enhancing support for security agencies through logistics and close coordination to ensure prompt responses to threats. The governor affirmed that the state will continue to collaborate with security forces to protect lives and property.
Governor Yusuf also highlighted that mass prayers serve as a spiritual complement to physical security measures and deserve widespread public support.
Prominent Islamic clerics present at the event stressed the enduring importance of prayer in addressing the state’s security challenges.
