Just In: Senate Approves 64 Career and Non-Career Ambassadorial Nominees

The Senate has confirmed 64 individuals nominated by the President for career and non-career ambassadorial positions, following the adoption of a report from its Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The confirmed nominees, who will soon represent Nigeria abroad to strengthen diplomatic ties, include career diplomats such as Arewa Esther (Oyo) and Mohammed Lele (Bauchi), and prominent non-career appointments like former Minister Femi Fani-Kayode (Osun) and former presidential aide Reno Omokri (Delta).

During the session, Senator Sahabi Yau noted the absence of nominees from Zamfara State. The Senate President acknowledged the omission, stating the list was not exhaustive and that the state would be included in future appointments.

The confirmation marks a significant step in filling key diplomatic vacancies, with a focus on balancing merit and equitable state representation across Nigeria’s international missions.
