Following his arraignment on Monday by the Ogun State Police Command on charges of assault and theft of musical equipment, Nigerian musician Portable (whose real name is Habeeb Okikiola) has been granted bail by the Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State.
The presiding Magistrate granted bail to Portable in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties from his immediate family after hearing the case.
The bail conditions stipulate that the sureties must be Nigerian tax-paying citizens, and their addresses must be verified by the court. Portable is also required to remain within the jurisdiction of the court and to provide valid identification, which will be verified by the court.
Portable’s legal team expressed confidence that the charges against their client will be dismissed due to a lack of substantial evidence. The case has been adjourned until May 17, 2023, for further hearing.
Portable is a popular Nigerian musician known for his Fuji music style, with a significant following both in Nigeria and abroad. He has been embroiled in several controversies in the past, including allegations of assault and violence.
