Think Before Leaving: Dabiri-Erewa’s Advice to Nigerians

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the head of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), is warning Nigerians to be careful about going to other countries illegally. She is urging Nigerians to do proper research before making the decision to leave.

Freshreporters News Learned that she shared this advice because more and more Nigerians are moving out of the country, a trend known as “japa.”

Recently, Dabiri-Erewa visited some Nigerians in Canada and found that some of them are living in very bad conditions.

Dabiri-Erewa noted that stopping migration, whether legal or illegal, is not easy. But she suggests that people should try to avoid going to a place that is even more difficult. She gave this advice on a TV show called Politics Today.

“Don’t leave for a place that seems better but might actually be worse,” she says. “Make sure you have a job and someone to take care of you where you are going.”…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
