The host country, Ivory Coast, advanced to the African Cup of Nations quarterfinals by defeating the defending champions, Senegal.
Ivory Coast equalized in the 86th minute to keep their hopes alive after Senegal took the lead in the early minutes of the match.
It was learned that the round of 16 match ended in a 1-1 draw, but Ivory Coast prevailed in the penalty shootout yesterday, January 29.
The hosts advanced to the knockout stages as one of the top third best teams and are doing their best to stay in the competition.
