ISWAP Attack Claims Lives Of 10 Farmers In Borno

Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State was plunged into grief and despair as news broke of a horrific attack by the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) insurgents, resulting in the death of eight innocent farmers.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 22, 2023, while the farmers were diligently tending to their crops in the areas of Shuwarin, Tomsu Ngamdu, Baram Karauwa, and Muna.

During the assault, the insurgents also abducted ten individuals, adding to the already unbearable anguish experienced by the community. The insurgents, through a heart-wrenching act, released a 16-year-old boy to deliver the devastating message to the authorities and the affected families.

Zagazola Makama, a prominent Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region, shared the grim report that the bodies of the victims were recovered on Friday.

The Civilian Joint Task Force, along with courageous members of the communities, bravely retrieved the remains of the fallen farmers, intensifying the somber atmosphere that engulfed the area.

Reacting swiftly to the distressing incident, Governor Babagana Zulum visited the scene to assess the situation and offer solace to the grieving community. The governor assured the people of Mafa Local Government Area that measures would be taken to reinforce security in order to protect farmlands and prevent further attacks of this nature.
