Solid leaders of Serie A with a commanding 17-point lead over historic rivals AC Milan, Inter Milan clinched the Italian championship with five matches remaining in the season.
“We’ve done what we needed to do since July 13th. We’ve dominated a championship with many obstacles,” said Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi confidently at a press conference ahead of the Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan.
While the title seemed secured with a 14-point lead before the 33rd matchday, the Nerazzurri secured their 20th Serie A title by defeating AC Milan at San Siro on Monday night (1-2). For this decisive clash, the Italian coach deployed his usual 3-5-2 formation with all regular starters.
