INEC Declares Results in Five FCT Area Councils, Collation Ongoing in Kuje

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal Capital Territory has released results from five of the six Area Councils in the ongoing bye-elections, with collation still in progress for Kuje Area Council.

Resident Electoral Commissioner for the FCT, Aminu Kasimu Idris, provided an update during a media briefing at the FCT Collation Centre, confirming that results from the five councils have been received, collated, and formally declared. Officials are currently working to finalise returns from Kuje.

INEC officials stated that the Electoral Operations Support Center has concluded its election-day logistics coordination, enabling full concentration on result management, verification, and declaration.

The Commission expressed overall satisfaction with the conduct of the elections, noting the timely deployment of sensitive materials, the effective performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for both accreditation and real-time result transmission.

According to INEC’s assessment, there were no major incidents of violence, widespread malpractice, or significant disruption recorded throughout the exercise.

The elections were held to fill vacant chairmanship and councillorship positions across various area councils, arising from court nullifications, resignations, and other vacancies.

Results for the remaining Kuje Area Council are expected shortly upon completion of the collation process.

INEC extended its appreciation to security agencies, party agents, observers, and voters for their cooperation in ensuring a credible process.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and pledged to keep the public informed as final declarations are made.
