I’m not going to negotiate with b@ndits — Zamfara Gov Lawal declares

The Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has addressed the security challenges posed by bandits in the state, reaffirming that he will not negotiate with them.

The governor explained that negotiation would have to be holistic and not involve just one party, hence why he’s not in a rush to negotiate with any bandit.

Lawal added that negotiation is not done at the point of weakness rather strength.

He disclosed this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, on Tuesday, 10th of December 2024.

He said:

“Let make it very clear, we don’t have direct border with this countries, maybe it’s only Sokoto and Kebbi that have direct border with Niger and some extender Chad Republic.

“And my position has always been very clear in terms of negotiation and the nature of negotiation with this bandits , whatever needs to be done has to be very holistic so I’m not into rush in negotiating with this people and like I’ve maintained my stance, I’m not going to negotiate with any bandit, that has always been my stance and I’m still on that.

“I believe you can only negotiate at the point of strength, not at the point of weakness .

“I’m not a military person or security expert, but with the little knowledge that I know, you don’t negotiate at the point of weakness, you only do that at the point of strength.

“Whatever it is that is going to be done, it has to be very holistic, it’s not just a one way thing. If this guys are ready and lay their arms, that shows a sign of commitment on their part without any clauses.

“We have what it takes to be able to secure this country, it’s just a matter of that commitment and I’m sure if we do the right thing, all this matter of banditry and criminality will be history.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
