Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has expressed optimism that the Southeast will one day produce Nigeria’s president, stressing that it will happen only when it aligns with God’s timing.
Umahi made the remark on Saturday, August 16, during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and his team, who were in Ebonyi State to inspect federal projects.
He urged the Southeast to re-engage politically, adding that the presidency cannot be attained through sentiment alone but through building alliances with other regions.
The former Ebonyi governor said jokingly, “And who knows, you know, whether that time it will be me.”
He also praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing improved economic indicators, including a reduction in inflation to 21.8% and foreign reserves rising above $40 billion.
Umahi noted that even international figures like Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala have commended the president’s reforms.
