Husband and wife stunned to discover they were never legally married six years after their wedding.

Stand-up comedian Atsuko Okatsuka and her husband Ryan Harper Gray were shocked to find out they were never legally married, six years after their wedding ceremony in June 2017.

The couple only discovered the mishap when they attempted to add Ryan to Atsuko’s health insurance and were asked to provide proof of their marriage.

After a failed attempt to retrieve their marriage certificate, they found out that the paperwork was never filed and that there was no record of their marriage.

The couple headed to the courthouse to get married again, with the certificate being backdated to 2017 after they paid a fee and brought two witnesses to prove that the wedding actually happened.

Atsuko joked about the situation, saying “I can’t believe we withheld marriage from gay people this long when we’re so careless with it.”
