On Friday, 1st of November, 2024, shortly after proceedings began, around five of the more than 125 defendants appearing before a Federal High Court in Abuja collapsed.
The defendants, primarily teenagers, appeared before Justice Obiora Egwuatu for arraignment on terrorism charges filed by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
They are accused of participating in the recent #EndBadGovernance protest in Kano State, where they allegedly chanted anti-government slogans and displayed foreign flags.
One of the defense lawyers, Marshall Abubakar, disclosed that the defendants were charged in two batches of 76 and 49.
However, few minutes after the first batch was called, the defendants were mounting the dock when some of them suddenly collapsed, causing confusion in court, a development that made the judge to suspend proceedings.
