Hungary’s conservative president tendered her resignation after public outrage over the pardon of a man convicted of being an accomplice in a case of child sexual assault.
Katalin Novák, 46, announced her resignation from her position as president, which she has held since 2022, in a televised statement on Saturday.
There was considerable outcry for over a week after it was revealed that she had pardoned a man convicted of hiding several child sexual offenses at a children’s home run by the state in April 2023.
