After a tough 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City ended a streak of four straight top-flight away head-to-head losses and is still on track for a fourth straight Premier League (PL) title.
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, was infuriated by rumors that Spurs fans would rather that their team lose this game in order to deny archrivals Arsenal the title.
Though Gunners supporters had begun to fantasize of winning their first Premier League championship in 20 years, Erling Haaland’s brilliantly simple goal popped that bubble. After Bernardo Silva sent the ball to Kevin De Bruyne, who timed his run perfectly, the prolific Norwegian scored from close range.
The mental anguish among the home crowd was so great that, as soon as their team trailed, anti-Arsenal shouts could be heard throughout Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A few even started imitating City’s ‘Poznan’ celebration.
But, Pep Guardiola’s team was not having it all their own way. Stefan Ortega joined the game when Ederson was sent off after a hard clash with Cristian Romero.
While Spurs’ chances of qualifying for the UCL are mathematically eliminated with this loss, they still have a chance to qualify for the UEFA Europa League the following season with just one point on the last day.
