Suspected gunmen have abducted six worshippers at the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, in a fresh wave of insecurity plaguing the region.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 25, around 12:50 a.m., while church members were holding a service. DSP Abayomi Jimoh, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement.
Jimoh said the assailants fled with the victims to an unknown location.
“Upon receiving the report, operatives of the Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations,” he stated.
The police added that one of the abducted worshippers has been successfully rescued through sustained joint efforts, while operations continue to secure the release of the remaining victims.
The abduction comes just four days after gunmen kidnapped a couple in Ilu-Abo, Akure North LGA, intensifying concerns over rising attacks in parts of the state.
