Gas Explosîon Causes Panic, Fíre at Ogun Industrial Free Trade Zone

A gas explosion at the Ogun Guandong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ) triggered panic and a fire outbreak early Sunday morning in Ogun State. The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. at a foam manufacturing company within the industrial park’s mattress production section.

The powerful blast was followed by a fire that sent thick smoke into the air, affecting nearby residential areas, particularly student hostels. Eyewitnesses reported that the loud explosion caused widespread fear, with students and residents fleeing the area. Initial reports indicate some adjacent buildings were gutted before emergency services arrived.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, Mr. Seyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the fire has been successfully contained and normalcy restored. The Divisional Police Officer from Igbesa, alongside police and state emergency officials, were deployed to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading. Official details regarding casualties or the extent of the damage have not yet been disclosed.
