A fuel tanker burst into flâmes on the Owerri–Umuahia Road in Mbaise, Imo State, on Sunday while discharging petroleum products at a filling station.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started around midday during routine offloading. Videos circulating on social media showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky as flames consumed the tanker and spread to parts of the station.
Emergency responders, including the Imo State Fire Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other security agencies, were quickly deployed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings and vehicles.
At the time of this report, the cause of the fire and the casualty count had not been officially confirmed, although preliminary reports suggested that some individuals sustained injuries.
