Four Dêad, Five Injured As Sand Truck Crash Into SUV And Police Van In Abuja

Tragedy struck in Abuja as a fatal accident claimed the lives of four individuals and left many others injured.

The incident occurred at Dutse-Baupma along the Dutse-Bwari expressway in the Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The accident was a result of a trailer carrying sharp sand experiencing a brake failure. The trailer collided with a black Toyota Highlander Jeep, a black Hilux pickup van belonging to the Nigeria Police Force, and a commercial tricycle.

Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying scene, describing how the trailer, unable to brake, plowed into the vehicles, causing significant damage and loss of lives.

Abdul Mohammed, an eyewitness, narrated the sequence of events, stating that the trailer driver was driving at a high speed and crashed into the vehicles.

Fortunately, bystanders at the Tipper garage junction managed to escape to safety after realizing the trailer’s brake failure.

However, the occupants of the trailer, the police Hilux, and several passengers lost their lives instantly. The occupants of the Highlander Jeep and the tricycle sustained severe injuries.

Residents in the area expressed their concerns over the dangerous nature of the junction, which has been a cause of numerous accidents. They urged the FCT Administration to take immediate action to prevent further tragedies.

Suggestions were made, such as restricting trailer movement on the road during the day and allowing them only at night. The plea for swift intervention emphasized the need to protect human lives and prevent such incidents from recurring.

Following the accident, officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived at the scene and transported the deceased victims to a morgue. The survivors received immediate medical attention at a nearby hospital.
