Former President Obasanjo’s Power Investments Left Nigeria In Darkness, Shehu Sani Says

Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has raised concerns about Nigeria’s ongoing electricity challenges, pointing out the failure of previous efforts to address the issue.

Sani highlighted how the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo invested significant funds into the power sector, yet the nation remained plagued by a lack of adequate electricity supply.

He alleged that a substantial portion of the funds intended for power projects ended up in the hands of bureaucrats and contractors, resulting in incomplete projects and a persistent energy crisis.

Taking to Twitter, Sani shared his thoughts, saying, “We can’t forget too soon how the Obasanjo administration channeled billions of dollars into the power sector, leaving the nation in darkness, with unfinished projects, and a considerable chunk of the funds finding its way into the pockets of bureaucrats and contractors.

“This pattern continued through successive governments. Since 1999, there hasn’t been a success story in Nigeria’s power sector. Shockingly, around $25 billion has been expended over 23 years with minimal results.

Nigeria’s current power generation capacity stands at a mere 4,753 MW, while South Africa boasts a capacity of 58,095 MW.”

Sani Dismisses Asari Dokubo’s Threat

Turning his attention to recent events, Shehu Sani responded to former militant leader Asari Dokubo’s declaration that he and his followers could defeat the junta in Niger Republic.

Dokubo had made bold claims of his ability to overthrow the coup plotters in the neighboring country and restore democratic governance, if given the green light by the Nigerian government.

In a viral video, Dokubo asserted, ‘’Should the government task me and my compatriots to intervene in Niger Republic, we stand ready. We shall conquer them and return victorious. This is not an empty boast.

If Benin Republic chooses to challenge us, let them bring it on. They are human, just like us. We will venture there, conquer them, and restore democratic order.”

Responding via his Twitter account, Sani likened the situation in Niger Republic to a minor annoyance.

He commented, “The Niger situation is akin to a mosquito bothering our peace. We can’t swat it away through force or aggression.

“Asari’s threat to attack Niger is quite amusing.”

The discourse surrounding Nigeria’s power challenges and regional dynamics continues, with both issues remaining significant talking points for citizens and observers alike…CONTINUE.READING.HERE>>
