Former Minister Malami Faces New DSS Investigation Over Alleged Arms Discovery

Former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, is under a new investigation by the Department of State Services (DSS) following the reported discovery of arms and ammunition at his residence. Security sources indicate the weapons were found during a recent search by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Malami’s country home in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

As the EFCC lacks jurisdiction over firearms offenses, it has reportedly handed the recovered items to the DSS for a comprehensive national security investigation. This new probe compounds Malami’s existing legal troubles; he is currently detained at Kuje Correctional Centre on money laundering charges exceeding N8.7 billion. Although a Federal High Court recently granted him and his family bail set at N500 million each, sources allege he has not yet met the conditions, possibly to delay immediate DSS questioning over the arms.

Malami has consistently denied all charges, labeling them politically motivated, while the EFCC maintains its investigation is evidence-based. The arms discovery adds a significant national security dimension to the former minister’s ongoing legal battles.
