Five Suspects Arrested For Criminal Conspiracy And Armed Robbery In Niger

The Niger State Police Command has made significant progress in combating crime in the state with the recent arrest of five suspects involved in armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, and receiving stolen properties.

DSP W. A Abiodun the Public Relations Officer of the state says the arrests were made following a series of robberies in parts of Minna metropolis.

He said on 9th July 2023, at approximately 5:00 am, a report was received regarding an armed robbery incident that occurred around 2:00 am in the Top medical area of Tunga, Minna.

The armed robbers, numbering about five and armed with cutlasses and knives, attacked a residence, injuring two victims and making off with money and valuables.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tudun-Wada Division mobilized his patrol team and initiated a thorough investigation. With the aid of technical intelligence, the team successfully tracked the suspects to a residence in Flamingo, Maitumbi Minna.

Upon sighting the police team, the suspects attempted to flee, but after a pursuit, three of the robbers were apprehended. The arrested suspects have been identified as Anthony Ibrahim (25 years old), Abubakar Ibrahim (27 years old), and Mikhail Ibrahim (25 years old).

In addition to the robbery suspects, two other individuals were also arrested. They are Danjuma Ibrahim (58 years old), who is the father of two of the suspects, and James Ibrahim (19 years old), all residents of Maitumbi, Minna.

Further investigation revealed that the two additional individuals arrested were involved in receiving and concealing the stolen properties. They were also found to have harbored the robbery suspects by allowing them to gain entrance to the house upon their return from the robbery.

The suspects have confessed to the crime and have provided information about other robbery incidents carried out by their syndicate in locations such as Mandela, Brighter, Maitumbi, David Mark Road, Mobile Quarters, and Farm Center areas of Minna over the past two months.

More than ten victims have come forward to identify the syndicate and some of their stolen properties. As part of the investigation, the police recovered several exhibits, including a sum of two hundred and fifteen thousand naira, one hundred and two thousand Francs CFA, four thousand Korean WON, thirteen handsets, one laptop computer, three wristwatches, an axe, knife, nail bar, saw, iron cutter, scissors, plier, MP3 player, six caps, and other clothing materials.

The arrested suspects are currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna. The police are also making efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still at large.

In a separate operation, the Police operatives attached to Paiko Division have arrested three individuals involved in theft and receiving stolen motorcycles.

The suspects are identified as Hussaini Mohammed (45 years old), the Ward head of Sabon-Danduru, Paiko, Isah Umar (20 years old) of Danduru village, Paiko, and Hussaini Ibrahim (25 years old) of Bosso area, Minna.

Hussaini Ibrahim was apprehended on 26th June 2023 at approximately 1:30 am on suspicion of stealing two Jincheng motorcycles from Tudun-Fulani area of Minna on 12th June 2023. Following his arrest, he led the police to Isah Umar in Danduru village, Paiko, who aided in the theft of the motorcycles.

During interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime and revealed that they had stolen a total of four motorcycles, with one individual named Nafiu, who is currently at large, and another person named Junaidu, who is also at large, involved in the sale of the stolen motorcycles.

They disclosed that the motorcycles were sold to Ward head Hussaini Mohammed for prices ranging from two hundred thousand naira to one hundred and fifty thousand naira. Subsequently, the Ward head was arrested on 8th July 2023 at approximately 2:00 am, and the police recovered twenty-six motorcycle number plates and one fuel tank.

The Ward head confessed to purchasing such motorcycles and admitted to removing the number plates before reselling them. The case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna, and all suspects will be prosecuted once the investigation is concluded.

The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji, psc(+), expressed appreciation to the residents of Niger State for providing valuable information that led to these successful operations. He assured the public of the Command’s commitment to maintaining robust security measures in the metropolis and beyond, with the aim of creating a safer environment for all.
