In a video circulating on social media, finance commentator Gehgeh, known for his strong views on entertainment and the economy, has urged President Bola Tinubu to enact a law in Nigeria that would imprison anyone who speaks negatively about the late music icon Fela Kuti.
Gehgeh stated, “President Tinubu should make it a law in Nigeria, anybody who talks down on Fela again should be jailed for life,” adding that despite criticism, the Afrobeat pioneer remains globally relevant.
He continued, “Can they make me President of Nigeria for one day? Then you people will see law…” He argued that many underestimate Fela’s influence and that disrespecting Fela equates to disrespecting Afrobeat itself, emphasizing that without him, Afrobeat artists would not have gained recognition.
Using Wizkid as an example, Gehgeh claimed, “If we remove Afrobeat from Wizkid, he doesn’t have any sound of his own. He is only recognized as an Afrobeat artist and Fela invented Afrobeat.”
