Award-winning actor and director Kunle Afolayan has clarified his professional philosophy, emphasising profitability over industry competition or headline-grabbing revenues.
During the premiere of his latest film, Afolayan explained that high cinema earnings hold little value for him if they do not yield a substantial personal profit. Addressing fellow filmmakers, he stated, “I don’t want to make any movie for the cinema where it would gross ₦2 billion or ₦1 billion and, in the end, I won’t earn up to ₦10 million as my personal income. So, there is no competition anywhere.”
He further noted that his primary focus is not on achieving record-breaking box office numbers, but on developing a sustainable business framework that ensures equitable financial returns from his creative work.
