World football’s governing body, FIFA, has sanctioned Malaysia after the country fielded ineligible players in several international friendly matches, awarding three separate 3–0 defeats against the national team.
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed the ruling on Wednesday, stating it overturned results from three home games played earlier this year. Victories against Palestine and Singapore, as well as a draw with Cape Verde, have all been officially converted to 3–0 losses.
The decision stems from an eligibility controversy where FIFA previously suspended seven foreign-born players for allegedly using forged documents to claim Malaysian ancestry and qualify for the national team.
The ruling underscores FIFA’s strict enforcement of its eligibility regulations. FAM has accepted the sanctions as part of the disciplinary process. While no further penalties were announced, the case has intensified scrutiny over compliance with FIFA’s player documentation rules.
