The Federal Government has expressed support for the Nigeria Press Council’s (NPC) initiative to publish a national compendium showcasing the economic and tourism potential of Nigeria.
Vice President Kashim Shettima gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the Council, led by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Dili Ezughah, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Shettima described President Bola Tinubu as a strong advocate of press freedom and a longtime ally of the media. He noted that the administration has maintained an environment where journalists can operate without intimidation, reflecting the President’s commitment to an independent press.
“The President is a friend of the media and understands the ecosystem very well. He believes firmly in press freedom,” the Vice President said.
Shettima pledged presidential support for the compendium titled “Nigeria: Documenting the Economic and Tourism Profiles of the 36 States and the FCT,” and promised to engage state governors to ensure broad-based backing. He emphasised that subnational governments are key to advancing the country’s development agenda.
He expressed confidence that the publication would enhance Nigeria’s global image and recommended its distribution to Nigerian missions abroad.
Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, commended the project, noting that proper documentation of Nigeria’s tourism and creative assets would attract investment and boost international visibility.
Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Mohammed Auwal Jatau, also spoke, stating that states stand to gain significantly from the initiative if widely adopted.
Earlier, Ezughah thanked the Vice President for his support and explained that the compendium would highlight Nigeria’s economic and tourism strengths while fostering national coordination and subnational development.
