The Federal Government has released the 2026 budget for the Ministry of Works, dedicating substantial funds for new road projects and ongoing construction nationwide. The budget allocates ₦600 billion for new road projects, with significant investments earmarked for key corridors across all six geopolitical zones to ensure balanced development.
A key focus is completing existing projects, with ₦160 billion for the South-West, ₦120 billion each for the South-South and North-West, and ₦100 billion each for the South-East, North-East, and North-Central. Additionally, the budget provides ₦367.9 billion for loans to fund major projects, including the dualisation of the 9th Mile (Enugu)–Otukpo–Makurdi road.
The budget also includes ₦157 billion as counterpart funding for a major project with China Harbour and sets aside a ₦100 billion contingency fund. Major highways prioritized in the budget include the Kano–Katsina Road, sections of the Kano–Maiduguri corridor, the Dikwa–Marte–Monguno Road in Borno, and various urban road upgrades.
According to the government, this widespread allocation underscores its strategic commitment to improving national connectivity, fostering economic integration, and ensuring equitable infrastructure development across the country.
