In a significant development for the aviation sector, the Federal Government has received approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to acquire taxi lighting systems for Port Harcourt, Lagos, and Abuja airports.

The project, which aims to enhance aviation safety and efficiency, will involve the installation of photometric pattern machines at the designated airports. The total cost for these initiatives amounts to N3.04 billion.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, following the ratification of the proposals at an Extra-ordinary Federal Executive Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Furthermore, the FEC’s approval encompassed a roadmap document for the aviation sector, marking a crucial step towards the realization of the sector’s strategic objectives.

The establishment of aviation leasing companies was also endorsed, enabling entrepreneurs and aviation stakeholders to access equipment through affordable leasing arrangements within Nigeria.

Expressing his satisfaction with the FEC’s decisions, Minister Hadi Sirika stated, “Today in Council, something very significant happened in the world of civil aviation. Part of our roadmap, the aviation leasing company, has been established and approved by the Council.

“This development will provide entrepreneurs and civil aviation operators with access to affordable equipment leasing options, contributing to the overall progress of our roadmap. I am delighted to witness the full business case receiving approval from the FEC.”

In addition to the roadmap document, another key memorandum presented to the FEC pertained to the award of a contract for the procurement and installation of taxi lighting systems, including photometric patterns, at airports in Port Harcourt, Lagos, Abuja, and other locations across the country.

The contract, awarded to Messers KSR3 Global Nigeria Limited, amounts to a total sum of N3.04 billion, which includes applicable taxes. The completion period for the project is set at 12 months.

The FEC’s approval of these significant initiatives underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing aviation infrastructure, safety, and efficiency in Nigeria.

The implementation of modern taxi lighting systems and the establishment of aviation leasing companies will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of the aviation sector, benefiting both industry stakeholders and air travelers.
