A bomb blast at a drinking joint in Jalingo, the capital city of Taraba State, has been confirmed by the Taraba State Police Command. The incident took place on Sunday night, May 14, 2023, in Jika Doruwa, a neighborhood within the Jalingo metropolis.

Abdullahi Usman, the spokesperson for the police command, released a statement confirming the blast. As of the time of the press release, the number of casualties remained unknown.

The police spokesperson disclosed that an anti-bomb squad has been dispatched to the location to assess the extent of the damages caused by the explosion.

Reports indicate that the explosion occurred around 9pm, catching people by surprise and resulting in several individuals sustaining injuries.

Many of the injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Jalingo.

According to Peace Danjuma, an eyewitness, the blast happened unexpectedly while they were at a local joint called Jika.

She mentioned that one of her friends sustained injuries from the explosion, which originated from under the chair they were sitting on.
