The father of Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has made a public appeal for help in reconnecting with his children after an 18-year estrangement. Kingsley Ikenna Ughelumba, identifying himself as Bassey’s father, spoke during a live TikTok session, directly asking Nigerians and his estranged wife for forgiveness and support.
“Please Nigerians should help me. Wherever I must have wronged my wife, she should please forgive me so I can have access to my children,” Ughelumba pleaded. He claimed the family rift began years ago after he returned to Italy, and he has since been denied all contact, with his children’s contact details changed.
He recounted a previous attempt to reconnect, stating he traveled from London to Leicester when Calvin played for the club. He said he used the player’s childhood nickname, “Bigi,” to identify himself. While initially welcomed, he claimed the meeting turned sour after Bassey called his mother, leading to a tense exchange where he was asked to leave.
The emotional appeal has generated mixed reactions online, with some expressing sympathy for the father and others questioning the timing and nature of his claims regarding the long-standing family dispute.
