West Ham will play Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarterfinals, while Liverpool will play Atalanta of Italy.
One of the favorites to succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager of Liverpool, Alonso will make his way back to England to take against West Ham. Should they both win, he may have to face his old team in the championship game.
Roma, the winners of the previous season, will play AC Milan in an all-Italian quarterfinal; Benfica will play Marseille in the other match.
If Liverpool advances, they will play either Benfica or Marseille in the semifinal, while West Ham may face either AC Milan or Roma. Only the final match of the championship will separate the two surviving Premier League teams.
The quarterfinal matches’ first legs will take place on Thursday, April 11, and the rematches will take place on Thursday, April 18.
