Dele Momodu has announced his registration from People’s Democratic Party, PDP on 17th of July 2025.
The resignation letter from Chief Dele Momodu, dated July 17, 2025, marks another significant blow to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as it highlights growing disillusionment among its members.
Momodu, a prominent media personality and political figure, accuses the party of being “hijacked by antidemocratic forces,” both internally and externally, leading to his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
His resignation echoes the recent departure of Atiku Abubakar, a founding member and former presidential candidate, who cited “irreconcilable differences” with the PDP’s current trajectory.
This exodus of high-profile members underscores a deepening crisis within the party, as key figures abandon what Momodu describes as the “carcass” of the PDP for the ADC, which they view as a more viable alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
The letter also reflects a broader trend of political realignment in Nigeria, with the ADC emerging as a coalition attracting influential defectors from major parties.
Momodu’s mention of the ADC aligns with reports of Atiku, Peter Obi, and others joining the coalition, signaling a potential shift in the political landscape.
His tone—combining regret for the PDP’s decline with resolve to move on—suggests that the party’s inability to address internal divisions and uphold democratic principles is driving its collapse.
As more members follow suit, the PDP faces an existential threat, while the ADC gains momentum as a unifying platform for reform-minded politicians.
The resignations of figures like Momodu and Atiku may catalyze further defections, leaving the PDP struggling to reclaim its former influence.
His statement reads;
“RESIGNATION AS A MEMBER OF PDP
I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect. My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times.
Thank you Sir.
Yours sincerely,
CHIEF DELE MOMODU”
