Former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has pleaded not guilty to the amended 20-count charge against him.
His legal counsel requested the continuation of his bail, a plea to which the prosecution raised no objections.
The trial judge, Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, permitted Godwin Emefiele to travel outside the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with the restriction that the travel must be within the country.
Subsequently, the presiding judge adjourned the trial to February 12 and 13.
This is coming after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accused Emefiele of impersonating the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to illegally obtain a sum of $6.2m.
According to the EFCC, Emefiele allegedly claimed that the SGF requested the CBN to release “a contingent logistic advance in the sum of $6,230,000.00 in line with Mr. President’s directive.”
The EFCC said Emefiele made the claim despite knowing that it was false “and you thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006, and punishable under section 1(3) of the same Act.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]
