The Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) has dismissed a surgeon for secretly removing a patient’s kidney without consent during a medical procedure. The termination was confirmed on Friday by the state’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani.
The ethical breach was exposed by the patient, Joshua Afolayan, who reported that the organ had been taken without his knowledge or authorization. Following this revelation, the hospital acted swiftly to fire the implicated surgeon and has launched a comprehensive investigation into the serious violation of medical ethics and patient rights.
The case has triggered significant alarm regarding surgical consent and patient safety standards, leading to urgent calls for stricter regulatory oversight and rigorous enforcement of established medical protocols across healthcare facilities.
