DSS Attack Sowore, Seize Phone En Route to Retrieve Treasonable Felony Case Documents from Court (VIDEO)

Personnel of Nigeria’s secret police, Department of State Services (DSS), attacked Omoyele Sowore; the convener for #RevolutionNow on Monday.

The activist and a group accompanying him were ambushed on their way to the Federal High Court in Abuja, where they intended to obtain the certified true copy of his treasonable felony case that had been recently dismissed by the court.

According to SaharaReporters, the DSS personnel denied the activist entry into court and confiscated one of his mobile phones.

The lawless DSS personnel also assaulted and slapped some of the people with him.

Sowore was recorded in a Facebook video engaging in an argument with a DSS officer who issued a warning to confiscate any other device used for recording the event.

Sowore stated that it is illegal to seize people’s phones and emphasized that individuals do not have the right to confiscate others’ devices.

An anonymous officer was heard saying, “I don’t have right, ba, come and teach me my work. You cannot teach me anything. If you do any video, I will seize that your phone.”

During the heated exchange, Sowore expressed his views that seizing people’s mobile phones was not within their jurisdiction. However, the officer countered by threatening to seize Sowore’s phone if he persisted with his argument.

On Friday, it was reported by SaharaReporters that Femi Falana’s (SAN) law firm – Falana & Falana Chambers – had called for the prompt retrieval of mobile phones, cash and other possessions possessed by human rights activists Sowore and Olawale Bakare from DSS custody back in 2019…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>

The activists’ demand arose after a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the treasonable felony case against them, as per the Nigerian government’s decision to drop it.

In a letter dated February 20, 2024 and directed to the DSS, the law firm representing the defendants indicated that their request is consistent with both court rulings and orders.

The Federal High Court ruled on February 19, 2024 that the Defendants in the case were discharged.

Afterwards, the Court issued an order requiring the service to free up all phones, cash amounts (and any other belongings) confiscated from the Defendants in August 2019.

On Tuesday, February 20th, SaharaReporters stated that the Nigerian government had terminated Sowore’s supposed treason case and as a result of this decision being made by Federal High Court in Abuja, his passport has been returned to him.

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled on Monday that Sowore was acquitted of treasonable felony, following an application by the Nigerian government to dismiss the unsubstantiated charges. As a result, Sowore’s passport seized as part of his bail condition since 2019 was returned to him by the Registrar at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Nwite’s verdict nullified the accusations and directed for the relinquishment of all confiscated articles from Sowore and his co-accused, Olawale Bakare.

Despite the Nigerian secret police, also referred to as the DSS, unlawfully confiscating Sowore’s phones during his apprehension on August 3rd of 2019, they have declined to return them.

Furthermore, they have declined the payment of N3 million in compensatory damages adjudicated to him by the court…[WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW]>>
