The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested an Osun State-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, following a public protest in support of Palestine.
The cleric, who leads the group Ta’awunu Muslimeen, was taken into custody after a video of the protest went viral online. The footage showed him and his followers in Iwo calling for Palestine’s liberation while waving Palestinian flags.
The protest sparked public debate and security concerns, partly due to the group’s history of organizing similar demonstrations. During the march, participants pledged allegiance to the Qur’an and Sunnah, but some coordinated arm gestures were criticized by observers who compared them to controversial salutes.
A particular point of concern for many Nigerians was the visible participation of children chanting intense religious slogans, heightening unease in a country already grappling with security and religious tensions.
