Former United States president, Donald Trump abruptly left his defamation trial as E. Jean Carroll’s lawyer accused him of flouting the rules.
The trial was reportedly centered on Carroll’s rape allegation and Trump’s subsequent defamation, intensified with Carroll seeking $10 million in damages.
Tensions peaked with Trump’s lawyer reportedly clashing with the judge, leading to a dramatic courtroom scene.
Judge Kaplan sternly warned Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, that she was “on the verge of spending some time in the lockup.”
Carroll, 80, is seeking at least $10 million over Trump’s June 2019 denials, when he was president, that he had raped her in the mid-1990s in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in Manhattan.
Trump, 77, accused Carroll of making up the rape to boost sales of her memoir.
