Dozens, Including Children k!lled As Shell Expl0sions Hit Mugunga IDP Camp In DR Congo (Video)

A displacement camp in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was struck by shells, killing an unknown number of people, including children.

International humanitarian organization Save the Children reported that one of its representatives witnessed the event on Friday while delivering sanitary supplies to the camp outside of Goma.

The charitable organization states that reports from the community indicate that roughly 40 people were murdered and many more were injured.

Save the Children stated that all of its employees and local partners are present and accounted for, but noted that it had not independently checked the figure.

ā€œThe reports from the camp are horrifying. Dozens of civilians have been injured, some have lost limbs. Most of those injured are women and children,ā€ Greg Ramm, country director for Save the Children in the DRC, said.

ā€œSome of our staff and partner staff were briefly trapped inside the camp before quickly getting out to safety.

ā€œHowever, thousands of children and families living in the camps do not have the same privilege of being able to leave for somewhere safer. A tent does not offer much protection from shelling.

ā€œWhat happened today is another grim reminder that the DRC continues to be one of the most dangerous places to be a child, and children and the most vulnerable are bearing the brunt of this crisis.ā€ [CONTINUE READING HERE]
