Delta Police Arrest Mother for Selling Two-Month-Old Baby, Fáking K!dnap Story

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended a woman, Rita Ughale, for allegedly selling her two-month-old baby for ₦1.5 million and then filing a false police report claiming the child was kidnapped during a robbery.

Ughale, a resident of Kokori in Ethiope East Local Government Area, had reported to the Ekpan Police Division on December 15, 2025. She claimed her infant was snatched from her while she was traveling in a tricycle during an armed robbery incident.

However, police investigators found significant discrepancies in her statement. Under questioning, Ughale reportedly confessed that the kidnapping narrative was entirely fabricated to hide the fact that she had sold the baby to a couple identified as Osas Omijie, 39, and Judith Omijie, 30.

Acting swiftly on the initial report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Labe Joseph, mobilized a team that successfully rescued the infant and arrested the alleged buyers.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrests, stating that all suspects are in custody. Investigations are ongoing to identify any other individuals involved in the transaction. The rescued baby has been reported to be safe and in good health.

While the case has highlighted persistent concerns over child trafficking in the region, the prompt police response ensured the infant was recovered unharmed.
