Court Mandates Trio of International DNA Tests for Mohbad’s Son

A High Court in Ikorodu has mandated three separate DNA analyses to establish the biological father of Liam, the son of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba).

The ruling comes after earlier attempts to conduct a single paternity test were stalled by procedural disputes, prolonging the contention between Mohbad’s family and his widow.

The singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, attended the court hearing with his lawyer, Barrister Oladayo Ogungbe. Ogungbe explained that the previously court-approved test failed to proceed due to disagreements over the chosen testing facility’s credibility.

To ensure an indisputable and transparent process, the court has now ordered that tests be conducted at three different laboratories located outside Nigeria. Each party in the case will select one facility, and the court itself will appoint the third. Crucially, all tests must be tissue-based and their final results must be consistent.

“The three results must show the same outcome. This is what we have insisted on from the beginning. It shows we have nothing to hide,” Ogungbe stated.

He added that Joseph Aloba would not be financially responsible for the tests and that all involved parties would witness the sample collection to prevent tampering.

Mohbad’s father expressed his approval of the court’s directive, stating he had no objections to the rigorous arrangement.

While Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, has repeatedly affirmed that Liam is her late husband’s child, his father has maintained that a definitive DNA test is the only way to settle all uncertainties. The court’s latest order is anticipated to finally bring a conclusive resolution to the prolonged dispute.
