Court Jails 27 ‘Yahoo Boys’ In Anambra State

The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Tuesday, 5th of March, 2024 secured the conviction and sentencing of 27 internet fraudsters before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State.

This was conveyed in a statement issued out on the official X page of the anti-graft agency on Thursday, 7th of March, 2024.

According to the statement, the internet fraudsters were jailed after pleading guilty to one-count separate charges bordering on fraudulent impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.

EFCC revealed the convicts to be: Ajaero Chidiebube, Kosisochukwu Ugwu, Apeh Samuel, Hyacinth Henry, Ebuka Ugwu, Abugu Ebuka, Ogbu George, Onoja Chekwube, Onu Celestine, Ugwude Ekene, Solomon Okechukwu, Kosisochukwu Mamah, Idoko Ejiofor, David Moses, Jude Ikechukwu, Kosisochukwu Martins and Victor Chinecherem.

Others are Eze Somtochukwu, Ekeleme Victor, Osuji Kingsley, Eze Sopuruchukwu Marvin, Osuji Nnaemeka, Ikechi David, Ejiogu Chizoba, Arinze Ojobo, Eze Chinecherem and Michael Ojo.

The statement partly read,

“In view of their pleas, prosecution counsel, Michael Ani reviewed the facts of the cases and prayed the court to convict and sentence them accordingly. However, defence counsels, Okeke Bernard and James Nwatarali, prayed for leniency for their clients.

“Justice Dimgba thereafter convicted and sentenced them as follows: Marvin was sentenced to one-year imprisonment with an option of fine of N120,000.00 and community service; Samuel, Henry, Ugwu, Ebuka, Martins and Chinecherem bagged one-year imprisonment each, with an option of fine of N50,000.00 and community service; while the rest were handed 1-year imprisonment each, with an option of fine of N150,000.00 and community service.

“Justice Dimgba also ordered that mobile phones recovered from them be forfeited to the Federal Government.”

It was gathered earlier in February that the EFCC arrested 36 suspected internet fraudsters in Ogun State and arrested 14 suspects at a “Yahoo Academy” in Makurdi.

In the same month, the EFCC also secured the conviction and sentencing of 31 internet fraudsters in Awka, Anambra State. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
