Bandits stormed LEA Primary School, Kuriga (1), and kidnapped scores of students, causing chaos in Kuriga town, Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
As at the time of report, the exact number of people kidnapped was unknown, although locals estimated that they were about 100.
According to reports, the victims include the school’s head teacher and a few other employees.
It was learned that the event occurred on Thursday morning at 8:20 a.m., just after the assembly.
Concerns about insecurity forced the junior and secondary schools to leave their previous location outside of Kuriga town and move into the school building inside the town a few years ago.
According to resident Shitu, who verified the event, the majority of the students fled their classes as soon as they saw the criminals on campus.
Lawal Kuriga, another local, also confirmed that victims who had been kidnapped were led into the thick forest.
The Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, did not respond to a text message sent to him, therefore as of the time this story was filed, there is no official response from the state government. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
