China President, Xi Vows To Make China’s Military ‘Great Wall Of Steel’ After Re-Election

Xi Jinping, the President of China, has pledged to strengthen China’s security and build the military into a “great wall of steel” to defend the nation’s interests against external enemies as relations with the West have reached the lowest point in decades.

While Speaking today, Monday at the closing of the annual meeting of China’s rubber-stamp parliament, Xi underscored the need to comprehensively modernize national defence and the military, FreshReporters gathered.

After thanking delegates for his unanimous re-election that was held last week, the China president, Xi said he would “build the military into a great wall of steel that effectively safeguards national sovereignty, security and our development interests.”

The president also pledged to better marry “development and security”, stating that “safety is the foundation of development, and stability is the prerequisite for prosperity”.
